MS NOW overlooks Cohen’s statement that he felt pressured to provide anti-Trump testimony

Michael Cohen Claims Coercion in Testimony Against Trump

Michael Cohen, who was once a prominent figure on MSNBC as part of the channel’s critical stance against President Trump, has recently made serious allegations about his experience with prosecutors in New York. In a detailed post on Substack, Cohen confessed that he felt “pressured and coerced” to provide testimony that would support efforts to convict Trump, which diverges sharply from his previous alignment with the network.

Cohen has been a crucial witness in two New York cases targeting Trump. He accused Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of manipulating evidence to secure a conviction against the former president. He expressed that the prosecutors appeared only interested in obtaining testimony that aligned with their narrative.

“It became evident during my interactions with them that their main goal was to convict Trump, not to seek the truth,” Cohen wrote. He elaborated on how, when his testimony didn’t fit their needs, the prosecutors frequently led him with questions designed to elicit the desired responses.

Cohen also mentioned that this same coercive atmosphere was present during the civil case led by the attorney general. He recalled that James made her intentions clear during her campaign, stating a willingness to take action against Trump if elected. This led Cohen to feel obligated to provide testimony that was in line with their agenda.

Throughout the past five years, Cohen has been a regular guest on MSNBC, appearing on various shows where he frequently offered critical commentary on Trump. Interestingly, however, since Cohen’s recent claims, the network has largely overlooked his revelations, focusing instead on other news items, such as the administration’s actions in Minnesota.

As of Monday afternoon, there had been no acknowledgment of Cohen’s latest disclosure on the network, raising questions about its editorial choices. The absence of coverage regarding his allegations seems particularly notable, especially considering his past prominence on the channel.

Cohen emphasized that his intent in sharing this information was to advocate against politically motivated prosecutions. He believes that no individual should be targeted for political reasons, whether it be himself or Trump. “The essence of our democracy demands impartiality in justice, and that’s why Lady Justice is blindfolded,” he stated.

It’s worth noting that MSNBC rebranded itself as MS NOW late last year, separating from NBC as part of a corporate reorganization. The new name reflects an ethos focused on providing news and commentary.

Cohen, who’s acknowledged his own legal troubles from 2018, where he pled guilty to various charges, now finds himself in a complex relationship with the critical media landscape he once frequented.
