MSNBC’s O’Donnell Claims Hegseth Does Not Have Votes to Get Confirmed — ‘Not Close to 50’

MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell said Thursday on “The Readout” that President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, will receive a majority vote in the Senate to secure confirmation. He claimed not to have come close.

O'Donnell said, “As of tonight, Pete Hegseth has 51 votes, which may come as a surprise to New York Times readers.・I don't have Ernst's vote. Today's big article is about how Donald Trump reinstated the nomination of Pete Hegseth. They did not identify any senators who voted yes to form the majority vote. ”

He continued, “When you get to the last sentence of the article, you realize, oh wait, they worded it in very vague terms. Maybe Joni Ernst hasn't made up his mind yet. She hasn't made up her mind yet.The senator comes out and she does. Like, when I say I support the process and she supports the approval process. The New York Times is treating this as a change in Joni Ernst's position. This is how you change your position. says yes and I vote yes.”

He added: “Mitch McConnell hasn't said yes. Susan Collins hasn't said yes yet. Their 'yes' number hasn't reached 50 yet.” ”
