MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki Says Kamala Harris’ Popularity Has Tumbled Off A Cliff In Blink Of An Eye

MSNBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki said Vice President Kamala Harris' popularity has dropped significantly in the weeks leading up to the election.

Current CNBC public opinion poll Mr. Kornacki said on “The Chris Jansing Report'' that Mr. Trump had lagged behind the vice president in previous months, but in October he claimed a national lead over Ms. Harris, 48% to 46%. He said he discovered that Harris' lead has widened since September at the same time as her positive ratings have declined, with her negative ratings now outweighing her positive ratings by 10 points.

“I think the big picture, as the NBC poll also suggests, is the basic perception of the two candidates is at stake here. Are you positive about Trump or Harris?” Do you have positive emotions or do you have negative emotions? As you can see here, they both have more positive emotions than negative emotions. But Trump, you see the gap here, 42% positive, he's trailing by 6 points on this question, Harris, 39% positive, 49% negative, she's on this question. 10 points negative.

Harris polled on the plus and minus scale throughout the first few months of the campaign, but those numbers have since dropped significantly, Kornacki said. He said Harris' decline in popularity was likely “correlated” to her decline in national polls. “And what's important here is the trajectory of Harris' campaign on this kind of emotional thermometer. When she first entered the race, she was basically on the same standard as Trump, both positive and negative.” , after about six weeks as a candidate, actually in our polls, she was above water on this question, when we polled on this a few weeks ago, she had established an advantage, with more positive opinions than negative. But now, both the NBC poll from a few weeks ago and the current CNBC poll are on this question. We see this advantage that she seemed to have established here in September disappear and she is back in that underwater realm with Trump again.”

The vice president's barrage of attacks on mostly friendly news outlets throughout October coincided with her declining popularity. Kornacki noted on his Oct. 14 show that while Harris' positive ratings fell by 5 points in October compared to the previous month, her negative ratings rose to 49% from 45% in September. did.

Harris, who took the top position in mid-July, led Trump for several weeks while refusing to give sit-down interviews or press conferences.

The latest Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday shows Trump leading Harris nationally, 47% to 45%. As of Friday, the former president held a 0.8 point lead over Harris in every battleground state, according to RealClearPolling averages.

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said Thursday that poll results historically underestimated support for Trump at the national level and in battleground states throughout the 2016 and 2020 elections.
