Police investigating a shooting in downtown Indianapolis that left seven young people, all under the age of 16, injured, said Monday that multiple people appear to have fired the shots.
Police said shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday, officers on patrol heard shots fired near Circle Center Mall and found a “large group of juveniles” at the scene. Police said seven young people were treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds, but none of them appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

Mayor Joe Hogsett said in a statement Sunday night that he was “heartbroken.”
“Let me be clear: No 12-year-old should be allowed to be out late at night without parental or adult supervision. It is important to note that young people at any age should not be allowed to own a gun. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t,” Hogsett added.
On Monday, IMPD said detectives “believe multiple shooters were involved” and that two juveniles were arrested for resisting law enforcement after Saturday’s shooting. “Detectives are actively pursuing multiple leads, reviewing surveillance footage, and have applied for multiple search warrants,” a police statement said.
Deputy Chief Tanya Terry said Sunday that police have not identified or arrested the shooting suspect.
