There are many police in the center, MunichThe incident occurred in Denver, southern Germany, after an incident near the Israeli consulate.
Police confirmed that the area around Brinerstraat and Karolinenplein in the city centre had been sealed off. People were told to avoid the area and residents of homes and office buildings in the area were urged to stay indoors. A police helicopter was circling above the scene searching for the suspect.
There are unconfirmed reports that one suspected gunman was shot and injured by police.
Munich police said the incident happened shortly before 10am this morning, saying: “Police forces opened fire on a suspicious person near Karolinenplatz, who was shot.”
So far there are no indications that any further individuals are involved.
According to German media reports, the suspect approached the Nazi documentation centre with a shoulder-mounted weapon, and police who guard the building at all times are believed to have targeted him.
Local journalists have noted the fact that the incident occurred on the anniversary of the murder of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the consulate in Munich was closed at the time of the shooting, the Associated Press reported.

The Munich Documentation Center, which opened in 2015, is located on the site of the Braunhaus, the former headquarters of the Nazi Party.

A major police operation is underway in Munich following an incident this morning near the Nazi documentation centre, which is close to the Israeli consulate.
Munich police said officers opened fire on a suspicious person in the Karolinenplatz district, hitting him.
