A man who investigators say spent his murdered wife’s life insurance money on a $2,000 sex doll will reportedly appear in a new CBS “48 Hours” documentary, “Kristen Trickle: An Autopsy of the Mind.”
Colby Trickle called emergency response units on the morning of October 31, 2019. Hayes Post reported. He reportedly told authorities that he woke up to a loud noise and found Kristen Trickle bleeding on Kansas’ side. According to CBS, the man told police that his wife committed suicide.
Sergeant Brandon Hauptman of the Hays Police Department (HPD) told CBS’ “48 Hours” that the circumstances do not match Kristen Trickle’s self-destruct device. The suspect said the weapon was too big for her hands, adding that women usually don’t aim at her face when committing suicide, police said. Detective Joshua “JB” Burkholder told CBS that other anomalies were noticed by investigators, including her alarm clock going off at the scene.
“Often people who are thinking about suicide and actually do it don’t have any plans for the day. They’re not setting alarms. It doesn’t matter when they wake up. No,” he told the media.
Although the case remained unsolved, Kristen Trickle’s death was ruled a suicide by coroner Dr. Lyle Nordhoek three days after her death, according to CBS. Colby Trickle reportedly lived as a free man for nearly two years.
According to investigators, the suspect canceled two life insurance policies he had taken out on his wife, totaling more than $120,000, and 48 hours after the insurance payments were made, he bought a life-sized sex doll worth $2,000. The paper reported.
“I think there’s a mourning process that everyone needs to go through when they lose a loved one, and I was concerned to order this type of doll just a few months after my wife’s death.” Burkholder told CBS.
Ellis County Assistant Prosecutor Aaron Cunningham told CBS that Trickle used up his entire $120,000 insurance policy in about eight months, spending thousands of dollars on video games, paying off debts and musical instruments. .
