‘Murderers Have Been Let Off Quicker’: ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith Absolutely Rips MLB To Shreds After Pete Rose’s Death

Tell me where he’s wrong…

ESPN sports personality Stephen A. Smith absolutely obliterated Major League Baseball for not putting Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame before his death. The all-time hits leader in MLB and also a former manager for the Cincinnati Reds, Rose passed away Monday at 83 years old.

Following one hell of a baseball career as a player, Rose became a manager for the Reds and ended up being busted for gambling on games that he was involved in. As a result, he was permanently banned from Major League Baseball and was never allowed to be in the Hall of Fame. For years, Rose had denied the allegations, but eventually admitted to betting. But despite his eventual honesty, he was never granted forgiveness from each MLB, former commissioner Bud Selig and current commissioner Rob Manfred. On the Tuesday edition of “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith called out the entirety of Major League Baseball for the denial of Rose, and he didn’t hold back at all.

“Murderers have been let off quicker than Pete Rose has!” yelled Smith.

“Baseball wants to sit up there with its high and mighty, hypocritical self and denigrate this man… In 1999, Rose got a standing ovation [during the World Series] They gave him a standing ovation. The American people said [blank] all that! We want this man here, we know what he did for the game, we know that he hurt himself, we know that wasn’t a good look, but it shouldn’t erase 23 years – but MLB did it anyway!”
