Sen. Lisa Markowski (R-Alaska) denounced Elon Musk last week in a “absurd weekend email” requesting the Department of Human Resources Management (OPM) to send a list of what they have achieved.
“Our public workforce deserves to be treated with dignity and respect for the unannounced work they play.” Murkowski said in X. “The absurd weekend emails to justify their existence weren't.”
Alaska Senators criticize the work done by masks and government efficiency, and are examining the ability of various departments to serve President Trump's agenda as it appears to cut federal spending .
“If Elon Musk really wants to understand what federal workers accomplished last week, he should know each department and agency and learn about the work he is trying to cut,” Markowski said.
On Saturday, federal employees received an email from OPM and asked them to send about five bullet points about last week's work.
Musk said if an employee does not respond to an email by 11:59pm on Monday, they will be “taken as resignation.”
The move sparked sharp criticism and concern.
Leaders from several federal agencies have told employees not to respond to emails and to handle communications with OPM on the issue.
Unions representing thousands of federal workers also denounced the emails, demanding answers about the legality of the request.
Musk defended the email, saying the request intends to find “a complete scam” from people who do too little work. He praised employees who have had a “good response” so far.
