Toosii’s Football Dreams Take a Shift
Recently, Nawjur Grainger, known in the music world as Toosii, decided to pause his music career to chase his football aspirations. He had set his sights on joining Syracuse University starting in 2026.
However, Grainger’s commitment to Syracuse was short-lived. He later opted out of joining the program’s recruiting class, citing comments from head coach Fran Brown regarding scholarship prospects.
In a social media update, Grainger expressed that Brown’s statements before his departure didn’t accurately portray the situation and went as far as to call his former coach a “bozo.”
In a TikTok video, he remarked, “There’s no coach, that’s not happening. I said I wasn’t going there anymore, but I wanted to share the news before revealing my next steps. (Brown) is a misfit in that regard.”
Grainger initially committed to Syracuse back on December 1st, sharing an inspiring message: “To every child with a dream, please make it a reality.” He expressed gratitude to his faith and supporters during that announcement.
Earlier this month, Coach Brown mentioned that Grainger might be a walk-on for one of the wide receiver slots in 2026, noting his experience as a high school wide receiver and kick returner.
During the recent transfer window, Syracuse added three new receivers. Brown acknowledged that it’s uncertain whether Grainger will be in uniform this fall due to roster changes. He added, “He’s still thinking about it… We’re bringing in more players, so the situation is fluid.”
Grainger questioned Brown’s explanation, insisting that their discussions about tuition support did not align with what was later communicated. In his words, “That conversation never happened. If you’re lying, I have the receipts.”
Apart from Syracuse, Grainger has also reportedly checked out universities in North Carolina, including Duke, near his hometown. He’s even received a scholarship offer from Sacramento State University.
