Next month, a satire play focused on the murder case involving UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione will premiere in San Francisco.
“Luigi: The Musical” is a comedic take on Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate implicated in the killing of Brian Thompson, who was 50, back in December in front of the Hilton Hotel in New York.
According to the show’s website, it’s described as “campy, surreal, funny” and “emotionally honest.” It also envisions a world where Mangione mingles with other notorious figures like Sam Bankman-Fried and Sean “Diddy” Combs.
On the play’s Instagram, the actor portraying Mangione shared, “I flashed those pearly whites, and there was a camera there that night.”

The one-hour performance will kick off at the Taylor Street Theatre on June 13. All tickets for the initial run are sold out, with additional dates to be announced soon.
The show’s creators emphasize that it aims to convey a message about avoiding any kind of violence or ongoing legal issues.
“We extend our thoughts to Brian Thompson’s family and recognize the complexities and pain surrounding this situation,” they stated on the show’s website.
Rather than focusing solely on the incident, the play delves into broader cultural issues, questioning why some people celebrate Mangione, despite his serious charges, and addressing the disillusionment many feel toward institutions like healthcare, Hollywood, or the tech industry.

Luigi Mangione, 26, faces charges over the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, in December.
“We hope ‘Luigi: The Musical’ makes people laugh and reflect. We’re not trying to pass any moral judgments here. Instead, we want to explore, with humor and warmth, what it’s like to live in a time when our formerly trustworthy systems feel untrustworthy,” says the show’s website.
Interestingly, Mangione is being hailed by some as a hero despite the serious accusations against him. Supporters on social media seem to suggest that Thompson’s murder was somewhat justified due to prevalent frustrations with the healthcare system in America.
In the last five months, Mangione’s backers have managed to raise over $967,000 for his legal defense fund.
