Musicians Supporting Gaza Voice Concerns About ‘Planned Censorship’

Musicians Rally Against Censorship Over Pro-Palestine Views

Massive Attack, the pro-Gaza band, has expressed frustration over what they call “organized censorship,” prompting them to unite with fellow artists to voice their concerns. They’ve formed a coalition of musicians who feel threatened within the music industry due to their pro-Palestine stance.

Their sentiments arise from recent cancellations and concerns about performances with strong pro-Palestine messages at festivals, universities, and other organizations. Other bands, such as Kneecap, Brian Eno, Garbage, and Fontaines D.C., have joined the cause.

In a message on Instagram, the band conveyed, “The scenes in Gaza have moved beyond description.” They expressed their commitment as artists to speak out against the genocide in Gaza and condemned the UK Government’s role in enabling it. They mentioned facing various forms of intimidation, both from within the music sector and from legal entities like UK Lawyers For Israel, reflecting on a documentary that outlined these activities recently released by the Led By Donkeys collective.

Massive Attack emphasized their determination to withstand intimidation tactics and vowed to protect other artists, particularly those in vulnerable positions, from being silenced or having their careers threatened.

They called for solidarity among artists and listed demands, including “immediate, unfettered access to Gaza for recognized international aid agencies without military threat.” They stated, “The organized censorship of Palestine & Gaza must end.”

Kneecap also weighed in, stating, “End threats and censorship against artists who speak out against the genocide in Palestine. Speak out. Stand up. We are the majority.”

However, Kneecap has faced significant backlash for their pro-Palestine messaging, particularly during a performance at the 2025 Coachella festival. Additionally, a member of the group was charged by the Metropolitan Police in London with a terrorism offense for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a concert in 2024.
