Musk Pledges Support for GOP Candidate Amid Tensions with Trump
On Tuesday, Elon Musk announced that he would donate to the reelection campaign of Representative Thomas Massie from Kentucky amid an ongoing feud related to Trump’s ambitious proposals.
This came after social media personality and former Michigan State candidate Bryce Lipscomb asked on platform X who else would support Massie’s campaign. Musk replied simply, “myself.” His post raised eyebrows and garnered attention.
In further correspondence, Musk complimented Massie, stating, “you’re great,” in reaction to a post that linked to a Fox News article discussing his commitment to support Massie’s campaign.
Massie responded graciously with, “You’re too kind, but thank you!” He added that a significant part of his role is to ensure government doesn’t hinder the efforts of engineers and entrepreneurs, whom he believes greatly contribute to society.
Interestingly, Massie was one of only two House Republicans who opposed Trump’s proposed spending bill, often referred to as the “Megaville,” which included key agenda items like the 2017 tax cut extension. Representative Warren Davidson from Ohio also voted against it, alongside Massie.
Massie had previously voiced strong opposition to the bill, labeling it a “financial suicide agreement” between the White House and certain Republican legislators.
Moreover, some Republicans in Kentucky openly criticized Trump’s decision to target several nuclear facilities in Iran during the ongoing Israeli-Iran conflict, which sparked backlash from Trump himself and spurred Pro-Trump super PACs to express their displeasure with GOP lawmakers.
Musk’s ongoing clash with Trump has been notable, especially following his brief involvement with the Trump administration aimed at government efficiency, which he later expressed regret about. The rift seems to have widened, as Musk promised earlier this week to back opponents of lawmakers who supported the Megaville plan.
When asked for comment, Trump hinted, “we might have to put doge on Elon.” Musk’s response was a mix of intrigue and caution, stating, “It’s fascinating to escalate this. So it’s very fascinating. But I’ll refrain for now.”
