Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and ally of President-elect Trump, has publicly endorsed Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in the Senate Republican leadership race.

Scott will face off against Senate Republican Leader John Thune (S.D.) and Sen. John Cornyn (Texas), who served as the Senate Republican leader during President Trump's first two years in the White House. He is a candidate.
Scott's bid to become the Senate's Republican leader has gained momentum among some of President Trump's closest allies in recent days.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Bill Hagerty (R-Tennessee) are also backing Scott. Rubio revealed online that he plans to vote for the leadership post to his Florida colleagues. Hagerty supported Scott in a post Saturday.
President Trump said late Sunday that Senate Republican leaders must agree to an appointment recess, which would effectively allow nominations and appointments to move forward quickly without requiring Senate confirmation.
Scott immediately embraced Trump's idea, saying he was “100% on board” and “will do whatever it takes” to move Trump's nomination through the Senate quickly.
