Elon Musk’s Third Party Plans on Hold
Elon Musk seems to have eased off on his intentions to form a third political party, considering JD Vance as a potential Vice President in 2028, according to a source familiar with Musk’s plans, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Musk had initially announced the formation of a third party called the “American Party” following a falling out with former President Donald Trump over a property matter. However, since then, he hasn’t brought up third-party discussions much on X. Insiders noted that maintaining a connection with Vance is crucial for Musk as he navigates his association with the American Party.
Interestingly, Vance has not engaged directly with Musk about the 2028 plans but has encouraged support from Trump and other Republicans leading up to 2026. The sources further stated that Musk has kept in touch with Vance since his government role ended, although he acknowledges that pursuing a third party could complicate their relationship.
In response to the WSJ article, Musk simply stated, “nothing WSJ says should be considered true.”
The sources within the WSJ have indicated that despite financial considerations around Vance’s involvement in 2028, he hasn’t completely dismissed the idea of a third party. The conversation seems to have lost momentum, as Musk hasn’t mentioned third parties since early July. Reports from those close to the White House also suggest that Musk’s American Party isn’t on their radar.
Some associates from Trump’s camp confirmed that the White House is not particularly concerned about Musk’s initiatives. One insider remarked that there’s uncertainty about Musk’s true intentions, with not much clarity on what he’s aiming to achieve.
After Musk’s explosive comments, Vance appeared to have come out of it unscathed. Having had a solid rapport with Musk, he was present when tensions peaked. Sources indicated that Vance and Trump communicated extensively as events unfolded. Trump had advised Vance to approach discussions about Musk thoughtfully, helping him navigate the situation without backlash.
Vance expressed his loyalty to Trump, commending Musk as an outstanding entrepreneur and acknowledging the potential benefits of Musk’s initiatives aimed at addressing waste and fraud in the country. He hoped for continued loyalty to the President and expressed optimism about Musk’s eventual return to the political arena.
