Elon Musk is reportedly in line to take on an advisory role in the White House if former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, wins the general election in November. The Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the conversation, that the Tesla CEO and the former president discussed ways for Musk to offer his “formal input” on policy regarding the economy and border security.
The outlet reported that Musk, owner of social media platform X, along with billionaire investor Nelson Peltz briefed former President Trump on plans to invest in “data-driven” projects to prevent voter fraud, according to people familiar with the meeting. In addition, both Peltz and Musk briefed Trump on an ongoing influence campaign among America’s top business leaders to persuade them not to support Biden, Trump’s biggest rival in the 2024 presidential election, whom he lost in 2020.
Musk, who met with Trump in March, has been meeting with the former president several times a month and has previously discussed technology, science and immigration, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The Tesla CEO, who has said he has no plans to donate money to the presidential election, instead wants to use his influence across various industries to help defeat Biden in November’s election.
A Trump campaign official told The Hill that the former president “will be the sole person to have a say in what role individuals play in the presidency.”
“But as has been widely reported and documented in many ways, many of the nation’s key technology and innovation leaders are concerned that Biden’s mismanagement of the economy and his efforts to overburden innovators with government bureaucracy and unrelenting regulation will harm their industries,” the campaign official added.
Musk did not respond to The Wall Street Journal’s request for comment. The Hill has reached out to X.
The Tesla CEO has yet to endorse the race, but the entrepreneur has been vocal in criticism of Biden in recent months on immigration, tariffs and other areas.
