Elon Musk Backs Thomas Massey, Escalating Tensions with Trump
Elon Musk is turning up the pressure on President Donald Trump as he endorses Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massey, who has vowed to defeat Trump in the Central region. Musk expressed his support for Massey’s 2026 reelection campaign on two occasions during a discussion about backing lawmakers on Monday. He stated, “I do it,” and later responded affirmatively when asked about Massey’s campaign.
As Musk has been vocal about his criticism of the significant spending bills central to Trump’s policy agenda, Trump reacted strongly, threatening to leverage government efficiency to scrutinize businesses that he believes are unfairly masked.
On Monday, Musk also amplified his criticism of the budget package and promised to target GOP lawmakers who back legislation he deems inappropriate. He tweeted that all congressional members who quickly reduced government spending while increasing historical debt levels should feel ashamed.
Massey has openly challenged Trump’s comprehensive domestic policy, dubbed the “big beautiful bill,” and has condemned the US strike against Iran as unconstitutional. A bipartisan effort in Congress saw Kentucky Republicans collaborating with California Democrat Rep. Locanna to propose a resolution aimed at preventing involvement in Iran’s conflict ahead of Trump’s military actions.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is vigorously backing Sen. Thomas Massey as he prepares for the 2026 elections. In a recent interview, Massey suggested he might support a more streamlined version of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” but he remains opposed to the existing legislation due to its insufficient cuts to government spending.
Massey remarked, “The political calculation that both the President and AIPAC must consider is that if they pursue me and fail, they will both lose a great deal of credibility.” Despite Trump’s commitment to support Massey, the primary challenger announced his campaign had raised over $177,000 last week, with totals approaching $230,000 by Friday.
