A former Clinton administration official wrote on Friday that Elon Musk is “out of control” and needs to be stopped.

In the article, Reich states:
Elon Musk is the richest man in the world and is rapidly turning his vast wealth into a source of immense, unaccountable political power that now supports President Trump and other dictators around the world.
…
He may be the richest man in the world. He may own one of the most influential social media platforms in the world, but that doesn't mean we can't stop him.
Reich also accused Musk of allowing X users to spread so-called “misinformation” on the platform. Reich then offered several suggestions for ways to “restrain” Musk, including a boycott of Tesla.
“Regulators around the world should threaten to arrest Musk if he doesn't stop spreading lies and hatred against X,” he added.

One of Reich's final arguments was to “make sure Musk's favorite presidential candidate isn't elected.”
In June 2023, Reich posted on social media that former President Donald Trump should be disqualified from running for president a second time.
“Not only should Trump be prosecuted, but Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution clearly bars anyone who has 'engaged in insurrection' against the United States from holding public office. He should be disqualified from running for president. That's it,” he said.

Following Durov's arrest, Musk said it would “probably be wise” to “limit” his travels to places where “free speech is constitutionally protected,” according to Breitbart News.
