Musk says first human Neuralink implant ‘promising’

The first person implanted with Neuralink hardware is making a good recovery and early results are showing “promising” signs, company founder Elon Musk said. Said Monday.

The tech billionaire said the first Neuralink surgery took place on Sunday, marking a milestone for the prototype brain medical device.

Animal testing began in September with the hardware, which was described as a “fully implantable wireless brain-computer interface.” Musk hopes Neuralink will “allow people with paralysis to control external devices with their thoughts.”

“This could ultimately restore full-body movement,” Musk said in September. “In the long term, Neuralink wants to play a role in mitigating the civilizational risks of AI risk by improving human-to-his-AI (and human-to-human) bandwidth by orders of magnitude.” Stephen Imagine if Hawking had this.”

In September, the company announced that it had tested implanting the device in the part of the brain responsible for motor functions. The implant is thought to send brain signals to a smartphone app that deciphers the intention of the movement.

Ultimately, the brain implant startup’s goal is to allow people with paralysis to use keyboards and control computers using just their thoughts.
