Musk says he's not donating $45 million a month to Trump

Tech billionaire Elon Musk appears to have scaled back his pledge to donate $45 million a month to support former President Trump, saying on Tuesday his giving is at a “much lower level.”

Musk reportedly pledged a record amount to an America PAC he founded with other prominent conservative donors on the same day that Trump nominated Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate.

in Tuesday’s Interview In an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk denied reports about the $45 million figure to Trump.

“What is being reported in the media is simply not true,” he said.

Musk later explained on his social media platform X that he would continue to support America PAC, without confirming or denying the $45 million figure or what percentage of that money would go to support Trump.

“I do make some donations to America PAC, but the amounts are much smaller and the PAC’s core values are supporting meritocracy and individual liberty.” He wrote“Republicans are largely, but not entirely, on the side of strength and freedom.”

The pledge breaks with an earlier promise by Musk to stay out of the 2024 election, after he endorsed former President Donald Trump last week, who survived an assassination attempt.

“I fully support President Trump and wish him a speedy recovery,” Musk wrote in a post on his social platform X, alongside a video of the former president standing and pumping his fist after being shot in the ear.

Musk has appeared to grow closer to Trump in recent months, Wall Street Journal report In late May, the billionaire and the former president reportedly discussed a possible advisory role for Musk in a second Trump administration.
