Musk’s popularity drops significantly during Trump conflict

Musk favorability takes nosedive amid Trump feud: DDHQ

Last week, Elon Musk faced a drop in favorability amidst a new confrontation with President Trump and his plans to launch a new political party.

According to the Decision Desk HQ, Musk’s net favorability decreased by 3.4 points, now sitting over 20 points lower than before. Presently, 55.8% of former Trump supporters view Musk positively, which is the highest figure during Trump’s second term. However, Musk’s own favorability dropped to just 35.4% as of Monday, marking a significant dip.

Interestingly, while Trump’s approval ratings have also decreased, they have not suffered to the same degree as Musk’s. Musk’s popularity has seen a steep decline since his entry into administration roles, particularly while managing the Department of Government Efficiency.

The ongoing feud between Musk and Trump flared up after Musk left his position as a special government employee. Initially sparked by disagreements over Trump’s signature legislation, the two have traded personal barbs since then.

Recently, the tension seemed to ease slightly, as both seemed open to moving forward. However, the situation shifted once Musk officially launched the American Party, a new political entity intended to challenge both the Republicans and Democrats.

“We’re living in a one-party system when it comes to squandering our country’s resources,” Musk remarked on his social platform, x, announcing the formation of the American Party. He stated that the aim is to restore freedom to citizens.

Musk shared thoughts from another user regarding potential policy platforms for the new party. These could encompass issues like lowering federal debt, advancing military modernization through AI, promoting “free speech,” and adopting centrist policies.

In response, Trump expressed disappointment over Musk’s direction, stating on True Social that he is saddened to witness Musk going “completely off the rails,” describing the past month for him as a “train wreck.”

Despite his considerable wealth, Musk faces significant challenges in establishing the American Party within the entrenched two-party system, which has long made it difficult for new parties to gain traction against the Democrats and GOP.

This decline in Musk’s popularity has also been noted among Republicans who previously supported him. Polls indicate that over the past month, fewer Republicans have viewed Musk in a positive light.
