Senator Rand Paul Critiques Senate Bill, Advocates for Improvement

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has expressed his desire to enhance what he refers to as the “big and beautiful bill,” as shared during a discussion with host Mike Slater. Paul has consistently emphasized the importance of addressing national debt throughout his career in the Senate.

“One thing I’ve always made clear is that debt is an issue we need to tackle, and it’s a problem that crosses party lines. I hold both parties accountable for this. They really need to step up their game. I’m a fiscal conservative,” he said.

He noted, “My aim isn’t to halt progress; I want to make improvements.” This, he explained, involves finding a compromise, like agreeing on short-term increases in debt caps or having separate votes. However, he remarked that simply having those adjustments wouldn’t suffice to stop the bill, as four senators’ cooperation is essential.

Paul recalled, “When four of us voiced our concerns back in March or when I started speaking out in January, the bill remained unchanged.” He mentioned that advancing discussions on improvements is challenging now, although Kentucky Senators remain hopeful as borrowing continues.

He added that reaching consensus among four senators is crucial for any meaningful changes.

In support of his stance, Paul noted that Senator Ron Johnson has also raised concerns about excessive spending levels. He predicted that if the bill passes by the year’s end, the deficit could reach $2 trillion, repeating that figure into the next year.

“I personally like the President. We’ve played golf together countless times. I appreciate him. I even investigated a past assassination attempt and worked hard to prevent such incidents in the future. I voted against unconstitutional actions taken against former presidents,” Paul stated, reflecting on his support. “Much of what I’ve done aligns with his goals,” he added.
