On FNC's “Hornity” on Thursday, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith commented on his name, which is mentioned as a potential nod for the 2028 Democratic presidential nod.
Smith refused to call for his candidacy, adding that his name is one of the most well-known elected Democrats.
“Okay, ducking, inevitable, there's no bob or weaving. Are you thinking of running for the president?” asked host Sean Hannity.
“No, I'm not, number one, are you okay?” Smith replied. “I like my life. I like my life. My life is very, very, very good, very fruitful. Politics is Sespool. We've all seen it. We've seen what these politicians have experienced. We've seen what President Trump has experienced over the past few years. Who wants to sign up for it? Well, obviously, having a presidency is a very strong and influential position, a leader in the free world, and we'll get it all. We see – look at the state of this country, that's an absolute mess. I understand that there's no business ahead of Josh Shapiro, but this is the part that I really, really want to reach, and it shows the pathetic nature of the situation. There's no business ahead of Josh Shapiro. There's no business ahead of Wes Moore.”
He continued. “I love both of those guys. I think those guys stand out in their own right. I don't think there's anyone else on that list, but beyond that, I have a legitimate case of making myself in this particular moment of Democrats. I think the national voice was diluted due to Trump's runaway. I don't want to hear about a 1.5% victory in the election. The guy got all the swing states. He won about 50 counties, he went up with the black votes, he went up with the Latino votes, he went up with the younger voters, right? There's nothing to say. He won the popularity vote. He won the vote at the Election College. He won the voice of the people, right?
“All the national voices that were there and I have included California governor Gavin Newsom in that mix. He came on this channel on your show and discussed Ron Desantis, so he tried to be the voice of the nation,” Smith added. “No, I'm not putting any of them there right now, and my last comment would be this – I think the fact that I am the candidate for the presidency in the United States, because according to the vote, Democrats are the clearest evidence of the pathetic nature of things that exist within Democrats today. I don't have the business on that list. I'm not qualified. But it shows how pathetic things are in this particular moment.”
