Several passengers on a Florida-based cruise ship came down with an unknown illness, with one woman vomiting in a mysterious blue color, according to reports.
Miranda Hill fell ill shortly after leaving Jacksonville with her boyfriend's family on Carnival Cruise Line's Elation ship last week.
At first she thought it was just seasickness, but it soon turned out to be something more.
“My vomit was bright blue and I had never eaten anything blue. Every time I look up blue vomit, I have to deal with poisoning,” she said. told First Coast News.
So instead of enjoying a relaxing five-day vacation at sea, the woman said she spent half her cruise time hooked up to an IV in the ship's medical room.
And it wasn't just her. Hill said her boyfriend's family, some of his friends and other passengers were suffering from similar symptoms.
“My friend who came with me ended up throwing up a live parasite,” she told the magazine.
On Monday, Carnival Cruise Lines said a passenger onboard the Elation had symptoms of gastroenteritis, or gastroenteritis.
Asked for comment on the incident, a spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Lines said there was “nothing to share” at this time, but that the company would provide information as it becomes available.
Miranda believes she had food poisoning, but said she and her boyfriend each received a $95 credit from the cruise line after the ship returned to Jacksonville.
“I just hope they do better. They cleaned the ship and told us to wash our hands, but who knows if the cooks are washing their hands?” Hill said.
