Bescent Praises Breitbart News as Top Source
In a recent conversation, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent expressed that Breitbart News is his primary source for information each morning. “It’s the first thing I click in the morning,” he said, highlighting its importance in his daily routine.
Bescent mentioned that he regularly reads John Carney’s Daily Digest, a newsletter from Breitbart focusing on business and economics. Carney recently accompanied Bescent to London, where they led the U.S. delegation in trade talks with the Chinese government, a trip coordinated by President Donald Trump. Bescent appreciated Carney’s presence during the discussions.
“John and I are always in touch,” Bescent noted, emphasizing his regard for Carney’s reporting skills. He called him one of the top three business journalists in America and stated it was great to have him in London.
Earlier this week, during a House panel hearing upon returning from London, Bescent addressed a reported physical altercation between himself and Elon Musk at the White House. This conversation took place when Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) inquired about Bescent’s well-being.
Bescent: “So far, it’s very good.”
Gomez: “I was just curious because I heard Elon Musk’s body-checked you at the White House. There’s no hard feelings, right?”
Bescent: “Do you know that?”
Gomez: “That’s what I heard.”
Bescent: “So, I believe what you read in Breitbart is what you say to us, a member of the House of Representatives.”
Interestingly, while many outlets covered the alleged confrontation between Musk and Bescent, Breitbart chose not to publish the story. Following the exchange with Gomez, The Daily Beast—a well-known left-leaning outlet—published a report claiming Bescent “destroyed” Breitbart News.
Entitled “Bescent deflects embarrassing questions about Musk brawl by destroying Breitbart,” the article featured familiar criticisms of the news organization. Bescent later responded to these criticisms, stating that he regretted his comments being “misunderstood” by outlets like The Daily Beast.
“I apologize if that was misunderstood. I was joking about progressive Democrats quoting Breitbart,” he clarified. “I was basically congratulating Rep. Gomez for expanding into Breitbart and using it as a source of information.”
Furthermore, Breitbart News has announced that Bescent will be speaking at an event in Washington, D.C. later this June, with details to be provided soon.
