Miles Turner Reflects on a Decade with the Pacers
Miles Turner has connected deeply with Pacers fans after a long tenure in Indiana.
The center recently signed a four-year, $108.9 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, and shared a heartfelt message on Instagram as he transitions with his new team.
“It’s really challenging to describe what the last ten seasons have meant to me,” Turner expressed. “From a teenager in Bedford, Texas, to who I am today, Indy has always felt like home.”
“You’ve seen me grow, both on and off the court. Just like you, I’ve been in and out, working hard every day…” He then addressed reporters at his introductory press conference, emphasizing that his decision to join the Bucks hinged on the aspiration to “stay competitive,” as noted by ESPN.
“A couple of years back, we reached the finals,” Turner said. “And last season, we made it there again. Being a significant contributor to winning basketball has really influenced how I view this league. I had to seize the opportunity to remain competitive.”
Turner, aged 29, was selected 11th overall by the Pacers in the 2015 draft. He’s recognized for his unique blend of defensive skills and the ability to shoot from distance, evidenced by his impressive 39.6% shooting from three-point range.
During his time with the Pacers, he played a crucial role during a memorable run in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, although he faced challenges, scoring just nine points and grabbing eight rebounds during Games 6 and 7.
Last season, he averaged 15.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
In his post, Turner acknowledged various local businesses in Indianapolis before sending his heartfelt message to Pacers fans. “Playing at Bunkers Life/Gainbridge Fieldhouse was a true privilege. You all have been incredibly loyal. You filled the arena, cheered for us on the road, and supported me during tough times.”
“Honestly… I’ve spent more time with you all over the years than with my own family. It was genuine love and I can’t express enough gratitude for welcoming me from day one.”
Concluding his message, the two-time block champion thanked his former teammates, coaches, and the Pacers staff, adding, “See you soon.”
