One person was killed and 11 others were injured after a gunman fired fire in the middle of a popular Myrtle Beach tourist spot on Saturday night, law enforcement officials said.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department shared that the shooting occurred just before midnight on Saturday when it noticed a “disruption involving multiple individuals” in the heart of the city’s famous entertainment district.
During the argument, officers reported that a person had fired.
“At the time, one of our officers responded by ejecting firearms based on the threats of the time,” authorities shared in an update on the department’s Facebook page.

Police said 11 individuals were injured and are undergoing treatment. The individual was shot during the officer’s response, which resulted in his injuries.
Holly County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard has confirmed the identity of the person who shot News13 as 18-year-old Jerius Davis of Bennettsville.
The officers involved in the shooting were not injured, officials said.

“Our officers saw what had happened and when they saw an argument and a gun was being shot, the officer responded very quickly and in my opinion saved a life,” Bethun told the outlet. “It might have been so bad last night.”

Bethune added that she would not have been on Ocean Boulevard about an hour before the shooting occurred and had she felt unsafe.
“It was an isolated incident. There was a huge crowd on the highway late last night. We don’t have constant control over what people are trying to do, but we can’t close ourselves and do anything,” Bethun said. “This is a great place to visit. It’s not an unsafe place. And I haven’t revealed anything that happened in any way.”
Rep. Nancy Mace (Rs.C.) also shared her thoughts and said she was “devastated” to hear about the “tragic shooting.”
“It was devastated by the tragic shooting at Myrtle Beach. Our hearts are torn apart for the victims and their families,” Mace wrote in a post on X.

“South Carolina is in a strong position and we do not tolerate any kind of violence in our community. God blesses the first responder of the scene,” she continued.

The police department said, “Our hearts and continuous prayers are with all those affected during this difficult time and with their loved ones.”
