Bonner Springs, Kansas – A surprising and rare spectacle took place in the sky above this small town, as large black rings formed, leaving many puzzled.
This unusual sight was first spotted Monday afternoon by local resident Frankie Camren while he was out riding his motorcycle.
“I just pulled over,” Camren shared in an interview. “I’m nearing 50, and I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
He managed to record the occurrence, showing a dark center in the ring with smoke swirling around it. “Can someone explain what this is?” he asked in the video. “And I’m not using an app… it looks like something little black fell from the middle.”
Initially unsure about what he was witnessing, Camren considered a few explanations but quickly dismissed the idea of an explosion since he hadn’t noticed any loud noises while riding his Harley Davidson.
One woman who appeared in his video suggested it might be a flock of birds, sharing her initial thoughts from a distance.
The video caught the attention of meteorologists at the Fox Forecast Center, who reviewed it and provided potential explanations. They suggested that the smoke ring was likely caused by some form of explosion, comparing it to how mushroom clouds form, where rapidly rising air encapsulates smoke in a ring-like shape.
Interestingly, Camren mentioned that some individuals in the nearby town of Tonganoxie had also reported similar sounds the day before.
After sharing the video on his Facebook page, it quickly garnered attention.
“My phone blew up a bit,” he said, indicating the surge of interest.
On March 29, a similar phenomenon occurred in Seattle, where residents reported seeing a nearly identical black circle in the sky. Reports indicated that the National Weather Service was contacted, but they confirmed it wasn’t related to any weather occurrence.
During a Seattle Mariners game, one meteorologist filmed the rings, which were produced by a motocross event held nearby.
