Tragic Death of North Carolina Pastor
A community in North Carolina is in mourning after the alleged shooting death of a pastor by her husband early Monday morning.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Tammy McCollum, 58, was shot by her husband, 61-year-old Eddie McCollum, during an argument shortly after midnight. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held in jail with bail set at $1 million.
The shooting occurred just hours after the church had celebrated its annual Easter service.
Tammy McCollum served as a pastor at the Well Worship Center located in Statesville. She also worked at Ulta Beauty in Charlotte. Eddie McCollum, on the other hand, was an instructional assistant at Southwest Middle School, where he has been placed on paid suspension.
The Well Worship Center expressed their grief on Facebook, describing the situation as “very tragic.” They urged others to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
“As a community of faith, we are reminded to rely on one another for strength, compassion, and support,” they wrote. “We encourage everyone to respect the privacy of grieving families and show kindness in both words and actions… Let us unite in prayer as we trust in God’s comfort and peace to carry us through this season of grief.”
The church’s post concluded with a comforting biblical verse: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Reports indicate that Eddie used a shotgun during the incident and called 911 afterward.
Friends of Tammy took to the church’s Facebook page to share their tributes. One remarked, “This is heartbreaking! Tammy and I worked together. My condolences go out to her family, friends, and everyone she affected.” Another expressed, “So disappointed and sad. I loved Minister Tammy and still love Minister McCollum. Praying for you all.” Someone else simply described her as “the sweetest girl.”
