New York City's top counsel, Lisa Zornberg, has resigned.

On Saturday, Zornberg resigned from his post in a series of federal investigations targeting top aides and police officers to Mayor Eric Adams (NYDynamo) following the resignation of former NYPD Commissioner Edward Cabán.

“I am deeply grateful to Mayor Adams for the opportunity to serve our city, and I strongly support the work he has done and will continue to do for New Yorkers,” Sonberg said in a statement.

Adams thanked Sonberg and said he plans to announce his successor in the coming days.

“I want to thank Lisa for all her hard work over the past 13 months serving this administration and, most importantly, the city. These are hard jobs and no one expects to stay in their position forever,” Hizzoner said in a statement.

FBI agents, along with other NYPD agents, searched Cavan's home last week as part of a larger corruption investigation that sources say is part of a possible abuse of power.

Cavan's twin brother, James, is also under federal investigation for allegedly engaging in “consulting” work as a “fixer” for upscale Manhattan restaurants and clubs.

The homes of Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks, Schools Director David Banks and First Deputy Mayor Sheena were also searched and all of their electronic devices confiscated.

No one has been charged with wrongdoing, but Mr Cabán resigned in an effort to help the police regain public trust amid intense scrutiny.

“News about recent events has become a distraction from our department and we will not focus our attention on anything other than our important work or the safety of the men and women of the NYPD,” Cavan said in an email to the police department.

Cavan will be replaced by former FBI official Tom Donlon.
