Steelers running back Najee Harris said he briefly missed the first quarter because he ate too much of his Thanksgiving feast. Pittsburgh wins 44-38 Sunday's game against the Bengals.
In the postgame press conference, Harris said he ate too much food cooked by Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth's girlfriend and slowed down on Pittsburgh's second drive at Peico Stadium in Cincinnati. He explained.
“For Thanksgiving, Pat's girlfriend Jill, she made these fiery little banana things.” harris said. “It was too much. I don't think I knew it was affecting me until I drove for the first time. So I blame her.”
Harris was slowed down by a screen pass early in the game and was sent to the sideline with what initially appeared to be a foot injury.
He downplayed the moment, saying he felt better after eating an orange.
The Pro Bowl running back re-entered the game on the Steelers' fourth possession and scored a 10-yard touchdown.
Harris continued to have a productive day, rushing for 75 yards on 16 carries and catching six passes for 64 yards.
After the Steelers won the AFC North, Harris was seen celebrating with head coach Mike Tomlin in the locker room in a video posted to his Instagram Story.
The Steelers (9-3) will face the Browns (3-8) on Dec. 8 in Pittsburgh.
