Najee Harris had to be assisted off the field during the Chargers’ game against the Broncos after sustaining an ankle injury. This incident happened in the second quarter, just a few minutes before halftime at Sophie Stadium.
The injury appeared to have a similar impact to what you might see with an Achilles injury. Right before it occurred, Justin Herbert had just received the ball when Harris stumbled and fell, quickly reaching for his left foot in pain.
As Herbert leapt over him, he managed to complete a pass to wide receiver Quentin Johnston.
Immediately, Chargers medical staff rushed to his aid, noting that Harris couldn’t put any weight on his left leg. It was pretty clear he needed help. Eventually, he was moved back to the locker room, and the team indicated that he would be out due to the ankle issue.
Before going down, Harris had recorded six carries for 28 yards against the Broncos, and in the Chargers’ first two games this season, he had totaled 33 yards on nine carries.
Interestingly, Harris, who signed a one-year, $9.5 million contract with the Chargers back in March, had missed all of the preseason due to an accident involving fireworks. Prior to this, he spent four seasons with the Steelers, where he was picked 24th overall in the 2021 draft, and he didn’t miss a game during that time.
