A neighbor of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC host Savannah Guthrie, reported seeing a suspicious white van in their Tucson neighborhood just days before she vanished. According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was last spotted at her home on Saturday around 9:30 p.m.
While there’s been little clarity regarding her disappearance initially, Sheriff Chris Nanos asserted on Monday that investigations suggest a crime has taken place. Police sources indicated that “drops of blood” were noted outside her front door and leading down the hallway towards the driveway.
A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Office relayed that Sheriff Nanos believes the evidence points to Nancy being taken from her home against her will, hinting at possible kidnapping.
Brett McIntyre, living across from Nancy, recalled seeing the unmarked white van parked nearby. He reported this to the police but couldn’t recall the exact timing of the sighting, except that it was quite recent. “It was just a plain white van, nothing marked on it. Usually, service vehicles have some kind of branding,” he mentioned.
Given the recent events, McIntyre shared his plans to keep a closer eye on unusual activities in the neighborhood. “Next time I’m out, I’ll jot down anything odd,” he reflected. Following Nancy’s disappearance, his wife Lisa expressed that they are considering installing security cameras as a precaution.
“We have decent security—metal doors and all. I’m a light sleeper, so I doubt anyone would get through without me noticing. Still, we’re a bit on edge,” she said.
