Increased Security Measures at NBC After Kidnapping Incident
The Today show has enhanced security at 30 Rockefeller Plaza following the troubling news of host Savannah Guthrie’s mother allegedly being kidnapped.
According to law enforcement officials, the NYPD has ramped up its presence around the building, and private security has also tightened, bringing more vigilance to the area.
A source shared that tensions are high within the studio, prompting NBC to boost security measures for its on-air talent.
Additionally, the network is collaborating with the NYPD to ensure the safety of its staff, with a strong focus on their well-being.
Over the weekend, Savannah’s co-hosts expressed their shock regarding the alleged abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who was reportedly taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona.
“Honestly, it’s pretty tense behind the scenes… we’re all just a bit shaken,” noted co-host Sheinelle Jones during the “Jenna & Sheinelle” segment on Tuesday.
“It’s upsetting for all of us. We’ve got our jobs, sure, but this is a family and it’s tough,” she added.
Jones mentioned that he had “not been able to sleep” since hearing about Nancy’s disappearance.
There are growing concerns about potential copycat incidents, especially since many TV hosts share personal details about their families publicly.
Rival networks have been queried about how they are enhancing security for their talent and production facilities, though it’s unclear if they are taking action as of now.
As of yet, police have not named any suspects in Nancy’s case. She was last seen around 9:45 PM Saturday after family dropped her off following dinner and a game of mahjong.
Connection between her pacemaker and Apple Watch was lost around 2 AM, though it was found at home the next day.
When Nancy failed to appear at church on Sunday morning, a concerned friend reached out to her family, who then contacted the authorities.
Reportedly, there were bloodstains and indications of forced entry discovered at her residence in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has stated that no further press conferences will take place until there are substantial updates regarding the investigation.
As a deadline for delivering a significant amount of Bitcoin to the alleged kidnappers passed at 5 PM Thursday, authorities are still examining ransom notes that were sent to various media outlets this week.
