Nancy Lieberman Defends Caitlyn Clark Against Jeff Teague’s Comments
Basketball icon Nancy Lieberman is fed up with the criticism directed at Caitlyn Clark.
Former NBA player Jeff Teague recently stirred the pot by stating on his podcast that Clark is “good, but not that good.”
“Jeff, I’ve got to say, I love you, but you weren’t exactly a standout player,” Lieberman remarked on the “3S and Ones” podcast. “You did your job, sure, and created an All-Star team, but let’s be real—Caitlyn is an exceptional player.”
At 67, Lieberman is a legendary figure in women’s basketball.
She played in several professional leagues and even had a stint with the Phoenix Mercury in 1999.
From 1979 to 1980, she led Old Dominion to back-to-back AIAW National Championships, and in 1981, she earned the MVP title in the women’s professional basketball league while playing for the Dallas Diamonds, earning her the nickname “Lady Magic.”
Teague has made a name for himself in the basketball media world through his podcast and had a 12-season NBA career.
His notable years were spent with the Hawks, particularly the 2009-2016 seasons, when he made an All-Star appearance.
After the Hawks, he played for teams like the Pacers, Timberwolves, Celtics, and Bucks.
Even with a fever sidelining her during part of her sophomore season, Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game, securing an All-Star nod.
Social media buzzed in response to Lieberman’s comments, reflecting a range of opinions.
“Caitlyn Clark is way better than Jeff Teague ever was,” one user commented.
Another chimed in, stating, “Clark’s contributions to her team and the WNBA far exceed those of Teague.”
On the flip side, another user argued, “It’s not unfair to say Teague had his uses. The game was different back then, and the NBA involves different roles for players.”
Michael Beasley, a former NBA player who co-hosts “3S and Ones,” sided with Lieberman, pointing out, “Jeff, my friend… you’re off base. Caitlyn is incredible.”
