Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) announced her campaign on Monday to become South Carolina’s next governor, expressing her aspirations to be a “heeled Trump” in the state.
This race has garnered significant national interest as a notable gubernatorial contest.
Mace has gained recognition for her outspoken stance on various issues, such as allowing individuals to identify as women in women’s restrooms. She mentioned to Breitbart News that she is “incredibly successful in Congress.”
“This year, I passed legislation to protect women from violence under illegal foreign laws, which secured the largest federal grant in South Carolina’s history—$195 million,” she stated.

A third-term lawmaker, Mace has embodied the campaign agenda, which includes restoring law and order, eliminating state income tax, and ensuring the safety of women and children.
“This is not just a campaign; it’s a calling,” she said to Breitbart News. “It’s about abolishing state income taxes, protecting my daughter, enhancing school options, and improving education. A call to restore law and order—this culture of crime ends here.”
Mace has entered a competitive Republican field, joining other candidates like Rep. Ralph Norman, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, and Sen. Josh Kimbrell.
Mace emphasizes her outsider status. “I’m not a typical choice. I don’t rely on political consultants. I’m a fighter, a high-heeled player, and I’m here to put South Carolina first.”
Mace has a complicated relationship with Trump; while he previously backed her opponent in 2022, he has since acknowledged her as a “fighter.” She believes a Trump-like aggression and policy direction is appealing to South Carolina voters.
“South Carolinians are tired of empty talk. They want governors who plan and deliver from day one,” she remarked. “I have a real proposal called ‘5-year zero’ aimed at completely eliminating the state’s income tax.”
Ending state income taxes has gained traction particularly in southern states, with Florida illustrating economic growth through its no-income-tax policies.

Mace aims to align South Carolina with Trump’s broader agenda.
“I am the only candidate prepared to bring President Trump’s core American agenda to our state,” Mace stated to Breitbart News. “And like Trump, I will stand firm, I won’t bend, and I will never apologize for putting South Carolina first.”
The primary election is scheduled for June 9, 2026, with a potential runoff on June 23 if needed.
