First appearance on Fox: Rep. Nancy Mace (RS.C.) has filed a lawsuit against ABC News and host George Stephanopoulos after former President Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and host George Stephanopoulos on Tuesday. I’m vehemently criticizing it.
Earlier this month, President Trump said on ABC News’ “This Week” that Stephanopoulos said during a heated interview with Mace on March 10 that the former president was “admitted to be responsible for the rape.” He made several statements on air, accusing Stephanopoulos of defaming him.
“The verdict in question was crystal clear. The jury had the opportunity to find Mr. Trump guilty of rape, but chose not to. Partisan Democrats like Stephanopoulos are the main reason why the jury “Americans’ trust in the media has declined significantly,” Mace said in a statement first obtained by Fox News Digital.

“For too long, Democratic partisans in the news media have prioritized politics over facts and talking points over truth. How can we repair the havoc and damage these partisans have wrought on our public discourse? , it will require serious efforts by news organizations to hold themselves accountable for their actions. ”
She said of the interview, “Stephanopoulos thought he could use me in his shameful attempt to damage President Trump. It didn’t work because I wasn’t fooled. President Trump is always for the truth. “I will fight. So will I.” ”
“Everyone is now on notice. Mr. Stephanopoulos’ tenure at ABC News is a stain on the profession of journalism. He is unfit to take the microphone, much less pretend to be a beacon of truth. This is not appropriate,” the statement concludes.

Mace called on Republicans to stop appearing on ABC “until Stephanopoulos is held accountable.”
FOX News Digital has reached out to representatives from ABC News for comment on Mace’s statement.
Rape survivor Mace previously said she felt personally attacked by Stephanopoulos, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, when he asked her how she could support Trump’s bid for the White House. Stephanopoulos said Trump was found “responsible for rape” 10 times during the exchange.
A federal jury in New York ruled in the 2023 civil case of advice columnist E. Jean Carroll v. Trump that Trump was not liable for rape but was liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The former president called the verdict “disgraceful” and denied all wrongdoing.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Florida, says Stephanopoulos’ statements were “false” and “given Stephanopoulos’ knowledge that these statements were demonstrably false, there was no evidence of actual malice.” or with reckless disregard of the truth. Court documents further state that the jury “explicitly found that Plantiff did not commit the rape.”
The lawsuit notes that Trump’s representatives contacted ABC after the interview to request a retraction, but the Disney-owned news organization did not apologize or correct the record.
