Resolution to Expel Rep. McIver Filed by Rep. Mace
Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, introduced a resolution on Wednesday seeking to expel Representative Lamonica McIver from New Jersey. This action comes after an incident involving law enforcement outside the Newark Immigration Detention Center earlier in the week.
Mace remarked, “On May 9th, McIver not only broke the law but also attacked those sworn to uphold it. Assaulting Homeland Security and ICE agents isn’t merely dishonorable; it’s an outright assault.”
She further stated, “If regular Americans had behaved like she did, they’d be in handcuffs. McIver seems to think that her status as a Congress member exempts her from the law. That just isn’t how it works.”
Mace insisted, “She should face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
New Jersey’s U.S. Attorney Alina Haba has since charged McIver with two felony counts, accusing her of using her position to obstruct federal agents during a turbulent protest at the Delaney Hall Detention Center earlier this month.
