Former Chief of Staff for New York's democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced a bid to remove California Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D).
High-tech Entrepreneur Saikat Chakrabarti say Pelosi, who was voted twice as a speaker at home, simply fails to meet the demands of the American public for change in political leadership.
“She was first selected when I was a one year old baby.”
Chakrabarti was Ocasio-Cortez's campaign manager when he first won a seat in 2019 and shocked the Democrats. The Firebrand socialists defeated the 10-term party loyalists who were thought to be next in line to take over for Pelosi.
Now, Chakrabarti is aiming to remove Pelosi, who has won a California seat for 20 years.
“She was first selected when I was a 1 year old baby,” Chakrabarti told CBS News.
He said he was motivated to run for an influential Democrat seat when he saw her say in an interview that Democrats really didn't do anything in the 2024 election, which reestablished President Donald Trump and handed over control of the US Congress to Republicans.
“For decades, both parties have ignored the biggest challenges most people face,” he explained.
“For most Americans, their wages are stagnant or barely creeping up, but the big things you use to make a life — you buy a home, raise a family, grow up to get a good education, go to the doctor — they're surged,” Chakrabarti added. “And because people just feel stuck and as a result, people are voting for change.”
He cited elections where both Barack Obama and Donald Trump won as evidence that people were eager to change.
Chakrabarti also said Pelosi pushed Ocasio-Cortez away when he was hoping for a bigger role in the party.
