Nancy Pelosi tears into Bernie Sanders’ comments Democrats ‘abandoned’ working class leading to Harris election loss to Trump
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi mocked Democrats' alleged ties to the working class and blasted Sen. Bernie Sanders for failing to support Vice President Kamala Harris in his eventual bid for the White House.
The day after the election, Sanders wrote a scathing letter to his former party, slamming Democrats for “abandoning” the working class and appearing surprised that Democrats did not show up to vote.
“It should be no great surprise that the Democratic Party, which has abandoned working-class people, should find that the working class has abandoned them,” the 83-year-old Democratic Socialist wrote in the paper. Strong remarks regarding X.
“First it was the white working class, but now it's Latinos and black workers. While Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. That’s right,” the democratic socialist said.
Pelosi did not take kindly to the Vermont independent senator's comments, refuting Sander's claims and stressing that Democrats have not abandoned the working class.
“I have a lot of respect for him and what he stands for, but I don't respect what he said about the Democratic Party abandoning working class families. That's where we are,” the 84-year-old Californian said. the congressman told the New York Times. Podcast “The Interview”.
Pelosi faced pressure to reveal what went wrong with Harris' campaign, but could not admit that the vice president was to blame for her presidential election loss to Donald Trump. Ta.
“Well, I completely disagree. And in fact, Kamala Harris ran before Bernie Sanders in Vermont,” Pelosi said on the podcast.
“This fact speaks to the fact that our work and purpose in the Democratic Party is for America's working families,” she added.
“For example, under President Biden, we have relief, people have money in their pockets, bullets in their arms, kids are safely in school, and working people are back to work.”
Pelosi took aim at President-elect Trump, but the octogenarian appeared to forget his own name for a moment.
“What's up, what's his name? What did Trump do when he was president? One bill gave tax breaks to the wealthiest people in America,” she said.

Pelosi, who is seen as the mastermind behind forcing Joe Biden to halt his re-election bid, said Trump's support from the lower classes is due to cultural issues.
“Well, there are cultural issues at play in the election as well. Guns, God, and gays, that's what they say,” she added.
In a conversation with Lou Garcia-Navarro, who was released from prison on Friday, Pelosi said that Biden would remain on the campaign trail for the foreseeable future before eventually withdrawing and handing over power to Harris in July. He admitted that it was a mistake to allow him to do so.
“If the president had withdrawn earlier, there might have been other candidates in the race,” Pelosi said. “There was an expectation that if the president left office, there would be a primary.”
Later in the podcast, Pelosi called Harris' death “heartbreaking.”
“The American people deserve the best that we can give them. The election was disappointing and in some ways heartbreaking because we didn't know what was really at stake. But we don't blame them,” the longtime congressman said.
After retaking the Senate majority last week, Pelosi said she was ready to work with Trump and Republicans as they seek to maintain the House majority.
“We always try to work with Republicans. That's our responsibility,” she said.
Asked about her disdain for Trump, Pelosi said she wished Trump success in his second term in the Oval Office.
“I don't admire his lack of patriotism or anything, but I'm not here to get into that. He's the president, and we all want him to be successful,” she said. added.
