Naomi Osaka Advances in 2025 US Open

Naomi Osaka’s campaign at the 2025 US Open has concluded, and it’s worth noting her remarkable past successes in the tournament, having taken home the title in 2018 and 2020. After an impressive victory over Serena Williams to claim her first title back in 2018, Osaka has consistently demonstrated her skills, and this year was no exception as she dominated her matches. In a strong performance, she reached the quarter-finals in Flushing, New York, winning 6-3, 6-2.

Osaka faced Coco Gauff in her opening match, where she quickly gained control, winning against Gauff, who struggled throughout the match with 33 unforced errors and never managed to threaten Osaka’s serve.

“I felt really locked in,” Osaka reflected after the match. “I hope everyone enjoyed the game.”

This marks Osaka’s first return to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam since her victory at the Australian Open in 2021. She has openly discussed her mental health challenges in the past and took time off from the sport but seems to have found her rhythm again.

In a touching moment, Osaka, who became a mother in 2023, expressed her emotions to the crowd, saying she had to hold back tears because of her joy in performing. “Honestly, I’ve enjoyed playing here so much. Just two months after giving birth, I was sitting in the stands thinking how much I wanted to be back on the court,” she shared.

Despite their competitiveness on the court, Osaka and Gauff maintain a friendship, and Osaka is now set to face the 11th seed, Karolina Muchova, in the upcoming quarter-finals.
