Naomi Osaka Shines at US Open with Dazzling Accessories

Naomi Osaka didn’t just take to the court; she glittered under the lights.

The two-time US Open champion, now 27, turned heads during her first-round match on Tuesday night, showcasing a striking blend of custom-made accessories and a shimmering Nike outfit.

Her entrance was nothing short of spectacular. Osaka sported a ponytail adorned with numerous gemstone-encrusted red roses, complemented by matching headphones and a crystal-studded doll called “Billie Jean Bling.”

Longtime hairstylist Marty Harper crafted her braids and ponytails, while the sparkling accessories were produced in collaboration with A-Morir, a New York eyewear and accessory brand known for its celebrity appeal. The intricate roses were created using 3D printing, and the headphones featured metal roses sourced from Japan.

Osaka’s crystal-laden doll came with a blue racket, styled to match her aesthetic, and A-Morir even offered similar charms for purchase. Interestingly, before the match, she removed the long ponytail and oversized hairpins, preparing for competition.

After a solid win against Belgian player Minen’s Greech, Osaka shared that the glam team had been brainstorming the dazzling look for weeks. “You think this is achievable?” she wondered aloud. “Honestly, the outcome exceeded my expectations.”

In her vibrant outfit, which included a coral red zip jacket, crystal-embellished tank top, and a flowing bubble hem skirt, Osaka explained the design process was quite extensive. She remarked, “Crystals present unique challenges in performance wear, so it was quite the undertaking.” Playing under New York’s night lights made her debut even more enjoyable.

In a more practical decision, she decided to braid her hair for the match, as the ponytail had proven to be quite heavy. “I always intended to take that off. Even braiding felt a bit like a challenge,” she reflected.

In past tournaments, Osaka has continually embraced unique styles, including a custom outfit designed by Yoon Ahn of Ambush, showcasing elements that emphasize femininity and her Japanese heritage. Accessories have always been part of her essential look, merging beauty with functionality.

“I find beauty in what’s considered girly,” she said. “There’s something special about showcasing that side, particularly here in New York, where the courts feel like a stage.”
