NASA DEI training says ‘individualism’ is white supremacy

A diversity, equity and inclusion training video posted online allegedly showed NASA engineers expressing guilt about not welcoming people of all races equally.

The video begins with a woman, described as an engineer, talking about her desire to “create a space where people can be everything they want to be.”

Afterwards, the woman said she regretted not making her project as inclusive as possible.

“All of these things can really limit how we do our work.”

“And through this work of examining my own intentions and actions and their impact, I saw that there was so much more I could have done to make the projects I've led as welcoming to Black, Indigenous and people of colour as the white people they were involved with.”

“I feel very embarrassed and regretful about that,” the woman continued, “so I look forward to today's event and this turn of events being a step in my personal and professional journey to make my work more anti-racist and to more effectively achieve my aspirations.”

The video then switches to a lesson plan slide with the heading “White Supremacist Culture,” focusing on words and phrases such as “fear of open confrontation,” “objectivity” and even “individualism.”

The person leading the discussion can be heard stating that these terms are more meaningful to white people and are a product of white supremacy.

“All of these things can really limit how we do our work and how we connect with communities from different cultural backgrounds who don't value these things in the same way that white supremacist culture does.”

Posting date of the discovered video Tenet Mediais unclear, but reflects other lesson plans. The Wall Street Journal 2022.

The media outlet pointed to NASA's “allyship” training and explained that the term “African American” alienates black people, as if the word means “other.”

of Lesson plan They further argued that being “color-blind and gender-neutral” was restrictive.

“For so many years, we've been taught to be color-blind, gender-neutral, and act as if differences between people don't exist, but these efforts actually limit us,” Lesson argues.

The slide show is X-user,he Training Modules It included 45-minute sessions (50% attendance required) on “Unconscious Bias and Micromessaging” and “Equity and Privilege.”

NASA has the most extensive diversity training of any government agency. Each NASA division has its own DEI Mission Statement Exhausting amounts of Planning and Resources.

For example, NASA's Astrophysics Science Division: Breakdown Demographics Promote in 2022 Equity and inclusion.

According to the survey results, the sector remains predominantly male (64%) and white (54.1%). The second most common demographic was “foreign” at 12.2%, and the third most common was “Asian” at 10.2%.

Of course, the space agency's diversity efforts didn't help its latest mission with a Boeing spacecraft known as Starliner, which ended up staying in space for about 12 weeks after initially planning an eight-day mission.

After several weeks of postponing an announcement about how the crew would return, NASA has finally rely They are scheduled to return to Earth by February 2025 aboard SpaceX's Crew Dragon.

While the crew learns they will spend at least nine more months in space, Boeing announced that the Starliner spacecraft will return to Earth on an uncrewed mission.
