The group, known as “The Flies,” is currently eligible for spaceflight missions to the International Space Station, future orbiting destinations, the Moon, and more.

fox news digital report Former Marine Major Luke Delaney, a Florida native, said graduating from the program was a dream come true. For some people, it can take decades to realize their dream of becoming an astronaut.

“The first time you put it on and go into the water, it’s emotional. You feel like you’ve succeeded in a way,” Delaney said of the first time he put on a space suit. .

The process to become an astronaut is grueling. The current class of students, all of whom are doctors, scientists, engineers and researchers, were chosen from a pool of 12,000 applicants, the report said. After making their first pass, they were sent to Houston to begin physical and mental training for their first spaceflight.

“There’s a lot to look forward to,” said Jack Hathaway, another member of the newest astronaut class.

“There’s a lot of hard work that needs to be done by the whole team. It’s a great time to be a part of this team.” [astronaut] office. You’re in the office with all the commercial partners that are doing the moon landings and the moon missions, and you have the opportunity to have multiple commercial partners building the lunar module and the human landing system. I’m really excited about this. ”

There’s a lot of talk about the possibility of astronauts traveling to the moon again. Medical physicist Christopher Williams said the team was ready to return to the moon and use their specialized skills to get there.

“It gives me goosebumps to think that some of the people I walked on stage with today are going to the moon,” he told Space.com.

“We’re not only growing, we’re adding to our portfolio and moving beyond low Earth orbit. I think we’re connecting with a lot of people in terms of exploration and getting out there.”

There is no timetable for when astronauts will be able to return to the moon.
