Tributes for Charlie Kirk Light Up NASCAR Events
This past weekend, NASCAR was ablaze with tributes to Charlie Kirk at the Bristol Motor Speedway, during both the Xfinity series Food City 300 and the Cup series “Bass Pro Shops Night Race” in Bristol, Tennessee. The outpouring of affection for Kirk came after his tragic murder earlier in the week. Kirk, who left behind a wife, Erica, and two children, was killed after an event at a university in Utah on September 10th.
After the national anthem on Saturday, not only was there an emotional moment over an overpass, but Kirk’s memory was also celebrated on the big screen at the racetrack. Additionally, at least seven drivers expressed their support for Kirk.
Race winner Christopher Bell, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 20 car, dedicated his victory to Kirk. “It’s been a really tough week. So many people are in our thoughts. This is for Charlie,” he expressed.
Tributes came from several drivers, including Jesse Love in the Xfinity No. 2 car and Austin Hill in the No. 21. Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon also honored Kirk with decals on their cars. Dillon shared his thoughts on the “tragic incident,” speaking highly of Kirk’s values.
“I admire his commitment to standing for God and appreciate his biblical teachings,” Dillon noted. “His capability of discussing matters without being confrontational—it’s just really sad news. It makes me want to delve into the Bible more and learn about Jesus.”
Richard Childress, the team’s owner, did not hold back in sharing his feelings regarding Kirk’s death. “Charlie had a profound love for this country. He loved God,” he said. Childress described the killing as “meaningless and pointless,” recalling Kirk as a great American patriot and friend.
When asked if he ever thought something like Kirk’s death could occur in the U.S., Childress replied, “I can hardly believe some of the insane acts we’ve seen. We have the largest country, and yet…” His voice trailed off, hinting at disbelief and sadness.
Jeremy Clements’ Xfinity No. 51 car also featured a tribute to Kirk, displaying a photo with the words “Rip Charlie Kirk.” Similarly, Jordan Anderson Racing’s Xfinity No. 32 car honored him with his name next to the American flag.
The unity shown by the drivers represents one of the most significant displays of support for Kirk across major sports events.
