Nashville Democrat faces backlash for saying it’s okay to burn down a police station

Aftin Behn’s Past Statements Create Controversy

Aftin Behn, a Democratic Congressional candidate, is facing challenges related to her past political remarks.

Currently serving in the Tennessee State Assembly, Behn is campaigning to fill the seat left by former Republican Congressman Mark Greene in the upcoming December 2 special election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. Interestingly, she has shown a lack of appreciation for the district and the resources supporting her constituents.

“I don’t remember these tweets,” Behn stated when questioned about a series of now-removed tweets from 2020. In those messages, she seemed to support dismantling police departments during the summer when protests erupted following George Floyd’s death.

Among her tweets was one that said, “Good morning, especially to the 54% of Americans who believe burning police stations is justified.”

When pressed further, Behn responded, “Well, I’m not going to get involved in the cable news nuts and bolts. But what I’m saying is, you know, our communities need solutions. We need local people to decide… local solutions to local problems… and that’s not the overreach of the federal government or the state government. That’s what we’re responding to in Nashville and cities across the state.” Yet, she did not elaborate when anchor queries intensified.

Again, she reiterated, “I don’t remember these tweets.”

Behn has a history of comments that have unsettled her party. She has openly criticized Nashville, the very city she aspires to represent.

In her own words, “I hate cities, I hate single people, I hate pedal taverns, I hate country music, and I hate everything that makes up Nashville,” adding, “I hate it.” However, in a video shared on X magazine recently, she seemed to soften her stance, admitting to having issues with certain aspects of Nashville but deflecting responsibility onto the Republican Party.
