Two police officers have been identified in the shooting of a suspect in the Covenant school shooting in Nashville on Monday.
Nashville Metropolitan Police Chief John Drake said Officers Rex Englebert and Michael Corazo shot 28-year-old Audrey Elizabeth Hale, “fatally wounding her,” and three children. ended a shooting that killed six people, including
Officer Englebert is a 4 year veteran with MNPD and Officer Collazo is a 9 year veteran with MNPD.
“Chief John Drake and the men and women of the MNPD gather at Nash to mourn the deaths of six innocent people, three nine-year-olds and three adults today in the Covenant Church/School shooter in Barton Hills. Entire building joined. Please drive,” a Nashville Police Department statement read.

According to the police chief, Hale swept the building and opened fire on officers arriving at the scene through a second-floor window before discovering Hale in the common room.
“The first call to 911 about a shooting in the building came in at 10:13 a.m. Police officers rushed to the campus, entered and began clearing the building. It was upstairs, and in a common area, a team of police encountered Hale’s gunfire (she was firing through the window into an arriving patrol car). A shot was fired, fatally injuring her.

Responding officers were on scene and neutralized the shooter within 15 minutes of Hale’s initial firing.

Surveillance video released by MNPD shows Hale breaking into the church/school through a series of glass doors at the side entrance of the building.
MNPD also found documents belonging to Hale in a nearby vehicle revealing that Hale’s attack was “calculated and planned”.

A mutilated shotgun and other evidence, including a second shotgun, were seized when officers executed a search warrant at Hale’s Brightwood Avenue home, police said.
The shooting is still under investigation, led by multiple divisions of the MNPD with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the ATF, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
