Two police officers have been identified in the shooting of a suspect in the Covenant school shooting in Nashville on Monday.

According to the police chief, Hale swept the building and opened fire on officers arriving at the scene through a second-floor window before discovering Hale in the common room.

“The first call to 911 about a shooting in the building came in at 10:13 a.m. Police officers rushed to the campus, entered and began clearing the building. It was upstairs, and in a common area, a team of police encountered Hale’s gunfire (she was firing through the window into an arriving patrol car). A shot was fired, fatally injuring her.

A mutilated shotgun and other evidence, including a second shotgun, were seized when officers executed a search warrant at Hale’s Brightwood Avenue home, police said.

The shooting is still under investigation, led by multiple divisions of the MNPD with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the ATF, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
