Police Officer Recovering After Serious Motorcycle Accident

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman visited Officer Michael Hyland, who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Long Island. During the visit, Blakeman received a message from President Trump urging Hyland to “get better,” according to officials.

Hyland, a 53-year-old member of the Nassau County Highway Patrol, suffered severe injuries during a funeral procession earlier this month. Reports indicate he was left on life support with extensive “bone fractures from head to toe.”

Both Hyland and his wife support the president, which led to Blakeman sharing a photo of them together with Trump.

Blakeman expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to uplift Hyland during this challenging time. He recalled that during a trip to Malaysia, President Trump reached out to see if he was at the hospital with Hyland.

“Unfortunately, I had already returned to Japan,” Blakeman said. “But the president asked me to pray for his early recovery.”

The accident occurred on October 6 when Hyland was leading a funeral procession in Lindenhurst. His Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2020 Toyota Tundra, resulting in severe injuries. He was initially taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip before being moved to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator and life support.

Dr. James Boswinkel, Hyland’s physician, reported that he has sustained multiple fractures. Despite the long road to recovery, updates indicate that Hyland’s condition is improving, and there is hope for his rehabilitation.

Currently, Hyland is unavailable for comment.
