Nassau Democrats Request FBI Investigation into Shooting Incident
Nassau Democrats are urging the FBI to look into what they describe as a “cover up” related to the sudden shooting of officials at the county’s main hospital. This call comes after documents connected to a federal investigation were reportedly stolen from private residences.
In a letter sent to FBI director Kash Patel, the Nassau Democrats want the agency to investigate the unexpected firing of Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who also chairs the University of Nassau Medical Center.
“We are raising important questions that any reasonable government should address,” said minority leader Delia Deriggi-Whitton during a press conference in Mineola. “We want the truth and we want it now.” She urged the FBI to determine whether the dismissal of Matt Bruderman was politically motivated.
Four hours after news broke regarding the robbery, Blakeman declined to clarify the reasons behind Bruderman’s termination but later denied any connection between the incident and the firing.
Blakeman’s spokesperson, Chris Boyle, defended the decision, noting that Bruderman had successfully reduced the hospital’s deficit by $120 million. He stated that leadership should now focus on patient care instead of financial issues, particularly after replacing Bruderman with health committee member Dr. Irina Gelman.
Seth Coslow, a former prosecutor running against Blakeman in the upcoming November election, expressed skepticism about Blakeman’s account. “This situation raises a lot of concerns,” he commented. “It feels like there’s something being hidden, and the public deserves clarity.”
The Democrats have also filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act to obtain documents that were stolen from Bruderman’s Oyster Bay home, which have reportedly been recovered. These documents are said to relate to an ongoing FBI investigation involving allegations that state and local officials have misused federal hospital funds for decades, potentially jeopardizing over $1 billion in funding and leading to financial strain on the hospital.
The FBI has not confirmed any details regarding the investigation. Meanwhile, Nassau County Police have taken over the April robbery case from the Center Island Police Department but have refrained from commenting, citing the investigation’s ongoing status.
Bruderman did not respond to requests for comment. Previously, he mentioned to the Post that he felt he was being exploited as a political pawn.
The FBI has also not replied to inquiries regarding the situation.
