Colbert’s Comedy Takes Aim at Biden and Trump
On Thursday, CBS anchor Nate Burleson shared his thoughts about Stephen Colbert, noting that the late-night host is “an equal opportunist” when it comes to his humor. This viewpoint was echoed by fellow co-hosts Gayle King and Vladimir Duthiers, who expressed their appreciation for Colbert’s balanced approach in cracking jokes.
During Colbert’s monologue that night, he took a playful jab at former President Joe Biden, responding to the news that the Trump administration had lifted the age cap for ICE agents. Colbert humorously mimicked Biden, saying, “I need work, Jack! I’ll bring Joe back into the game, I need work, Jack. Put me in, coach,” which seemed to poke fun at the president’s age.
Colbert’s Bold Remarks
Colbert, who has previously helped Biden with fundraising efforts, didn’t shy away from discussing the former president’s recent decline during his first interview since pulling out of the presidential race. Despite the occasional light-hearted teasing about Biden’s age, Colbert has consistently supported him throughout his presidency and has provided a platform for liberal lawmakers and media personalities on his show.
However, CBS has decided to cancel Colbert’s show, citing financial constraints, with the final episode scheduled for May. Since the announcement, Colbert has hosted various prominent figures, including Senator Adam Schiff and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.
Liberal Focus in Colbert’s Humor
At least 200 episodes of Colbert’s show have featured members from the liberal media, and his monologues largely delve into major political critiques and current events. He has also taken steps to hold his parent company, Paramount, accountable, especially following a lawsuit related to a “60 Minutes” interview, accusing them of accepting “big fat bribes.”
Colbert’s mix of humor and critique keeps the conversations lively, and despite the impending end of his show, it seems his influence will linger in the late-night landscape.
