Republican Senate Candidate Reflects on Friend’s Tragic Death

Nate Morris described the recent assassination of his friend Charlie Kirk as a “gut punch.” Kirk was shot and killed last week, leaving a significant impact on those who knew him.

Morris, who is one of the primary contenders for the Republican nomination in the 2026 race to succeed Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, stressed his commitment to running an outstanding campaign in honor of Kirk. “I will honor him by running an incredible campaign and winning this,” he stated.

Sharing his personal connection, Morris expressed, “I had the opportunity to meet Charlie and get to know him. He really didn’t know me at all.” He highlighted Kirk’s remarkable ability to listen and support those around him. “I think Charlie’s superpower was his ability to listen and give people the opportunity to share what’s in their hearts,” Morris said.

Prominent conservative figures, including President Trump and other allies, once invited Morris to a radio show, demonstrating the support he has received. In June, they participated in a campaign kickoff event near Louisville, Kentucky, together.

Morris remarked on the boost Kirk’s presence provided to his campaign: “It was such a shot in the arms of our campaign. You couldn’t ask for something bigger. An iconic leader like Charlie who believes in you and your vision changes everything.” He also emphasized Kirk’s influence on his outlook: “I think Charlie set the tone because he was in this campaign from the start.”

Morris is not alone in seeking the nomination; he is up against Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Following Kirk’s tragic death, there have been strong calls for reflection and unity among supporters. Cameron stated that in Kirk’s honor, they would continue to uphold the values and truths central to the nation’s foundation.

Motivated more than ever, Morris said, “This fire is like a fire that I can’t explain because this happened. We need to win and honor Charlie for what he did for us. We have no choice.” His determination to enter the race has only intensified since Kirk’s tragic demise.
